CEMIG Initiative - MN DHS

How CEMIG Supports the Community
CEMIG’s work is centered around five core pillars that support community mental health, education, and access to care.
1
Paid Internships
We established a graduate-level internship and mentorship program for Somali and East African students. By providing stipends, we remove the financial barriers that often prevent talented emerging professionals from entering the behavioral health field.
2
Clinical Supervision
We have expanded access to board-approved supervision for clinical trainees. This ensures that upcoming clinicians receive the culturally grounded guidance necessary to achieve independent licensure.
3
Structured Training Programs
Our team delivers hands-on training for staff and community partners. These programs focus on trauma-informed and culturally responsive care models specifically tailored to the East African community.
4
Community Outreach
Through targeted engagement and partnerships, including collaboration with faith networks, we are actively reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
5
Access for Uninsured Clients
We prioritize low-barrier access, providing critical behavioral health services to uninsured and underinsured individuals who would otherwise face significant gaps in care.
